I woke up at 5am this morning. Over the past week I have chosen to wake up at 5am four times. I am very proud of myself.
I’m doing this because I have read that it is the habit of a successful person. ‘If you want to make something of your life, you must wake up early and start your day off correctly,’ I hear again and again.
YouTube is littered with ‘How To Get Up At 5am’ videos and I wouldn’t be surprised if I’ve seen most of them. But then I realised something that made waking up so much easier and I want to share it with you.
Most people who want to be successful will have read about the habits of successful people. But here’s the problem; if you are deliberately trying to adopt the habit of a successful person, you probably don’t see yourself as successful. When you look in the mirror, you see someone who isn’t that successful and so you strive to morph yourself into somebody who is.
Waking up early is the habit of a successful person. If we go into it with the mindset of, ‘If I do this then I will be successful’, then it will never work. We are already viewing ourselves as unable to achieve this goal. We need to think to ourselves, ‘I am a successful person and successful people do this. Therefore I will wake up early because that’s what people like me do’.
Don’t wake up earlier to become successful.
Wake up earlier because you are successful. It’s what successful people do, after all.
It is a very small change in mindset that has made the change in my life so much easier. I hope it is also useful to you.
