My name is Carmen Elaine and in 2016 I got rid of 80% of the things I owned. At the time, I thought I was just tidying; attending to the superficial layer of my life and making my house a bit easier to keep clean. Instead, it completely changed everything about my life. I found peace, clarity and space by learning that the habit of buying things simply to own them didn’t make me happy.
And, before that, I really thought it did. I thought it was worth working for; sacrificing my time for. My goals were to own things - better, bigger, more expensive things; always wanting more.
But there is joy in less. There is serenity in simplifying. There is room to grow in empty space.
Since this change in my life, I feel compelled to share it with anyone who would be interested in listening. It is easy to fall into the trap of instant gratification (buy this and you will be happy, wear this and you will feel confident etc.) but everything worthwhile comes from detaching yourself from this flawed view.
I spend my time teaching music and sharing my thoughts on this blog and on my YouTube channel.
I hope you’ll stay a while.
