Change your mind

I want to share with you one tiny way that my life changed in the past month.  It's rather small and may seem insignificant but it has made a big difference to my life.  It also proves how much of what I've been taught is still flowing through my veins.

I try to think every decision out to make sure it's as based on my own beliefs as possible.  I don't want to be influenced by what I think people might expect of me or social norms; I want to think my own thoughts and act on only them.  I'm not claiming to succeed every time but I am trying.

As I said, this is a small thing but it is proof of how engrained patterns of thinking are and I hope it will encourage you to think of your own.

I try to eat healthily but I love delicious food.  I know the two aren't mutually exclusive but, let's face it, they often are.  I have managed to eat less fat and oil through recognising how it makes me feel but the problem remained: how do I eat delicious food that I love and get excited about without eating crisps and chocolate all the damn time?

It just so happens I love fruit; pineapples and mangoes to be exact.  But I never bought them because I thought they were expensive.  But then it hit me in a moment of clarity: they're aren't that expensive but my parents always thought they were.  I seem to be more than happy to spent £1.50 on a bag of crisps but a pineapple?  No way!

I have bought more pineapples and mangoes in the last three weeks than I have the year prior.  And I love it.  They're so juicy and tasty and, most importantly, good for me!*  As someone who endeavours not to undervalue the little things in life, it's made a huge difference.  I snack on food I love without feeling sick afterwards.  It's honestly changed my life.

I'm looking forward to seeing which pattern of thought I didn't know I had goes next!

    1. It's so strange, isn't it? After all this time, these engrained patterns still haunt me.
